"Forever" by the Beach Boys

Dad’s Song of the Day, Sept. 5, 2025

This one is actually Mom and Dad’s song of the day, as it was our wedding song — the very beautiful “Forever” by the Beach Boys.

The Beach Boys have so many great songs, including a few that you’re all familiar with, like “God Only Knows” and “Good Vibrations”…and almost all of them were written by the oldest of the 3 Wilson Brothers in the Beach Boys: Brian. He died recently and is remembered as one of the greatest musicians of our lifetime. Certainly one of my favorites.

However…” Forever “ was actually written by the youngest brother, Dennis, who was considered to be something of an uncontrollable wild child. He was the Beach Boys drummer and was mainly just a surfer and party boy…almost always drunk and or stoned. (Shockingly, he became friends with Charles Manson, who was a cult leader and had his followers murder some people in the late 60’s…the movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is roughly based on his cult “family”).

So, anyway, just so weird that Dennis—sort of the black sheep/fuck-up of the family—wrote one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.
