"My Generation" by The Who
Dad’s Song of the Day, Sept. 6, 2025
Today’s song is here because I heard that The Who were in Toronto earlier this week as part of their Farewell Tour. They were huge HUGE once and considered at the same level as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones at one point.
Here’s what’s funny about the concert this week: everyone of my generation in Toronto remembers very clearly another “The Who’s Final Tour” because their final (final!) show was in Toronto!! It was a really big deal, with a live simulcast on TV, so the whole world could see it.
Now, here’s the funny part: This “Final Who Show” was in 1982!!!!! Aka 43 years ago.
Today’s song, My Generation, is both in tribute to that AND to point out the silliness of defining yourself by your age…. You see, the key line of this song is “…Hope I Die Before I Get Old”….
And now , here they are 80 years old now and still doing “farewell tours”.
Anyway, My Generation is a brilliant song and certainly the most famous Song of the Day thus far.
