“Stardust” by Nat King Cole
Dad’s Song of the Day, Sept. 20, 2025
Just listen to the voice on this song…is there anything more soothing that’s ever been recorded? If you’re ever losing your cool from stress, just let the utter warmth of Nat King Cole’s voice lull you into a new world of comfort and peace.
Of course, we all recognize his voice from Polly’s Christmas playlist (“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire”)…Nat was the first black person ever to host a TV show, back in the 1950s and, sadly, he received a lot of discrimination and grief for it.
This song, “Stardust”, written by Hoagie Carmichael, was the most recorded song ever (more than 1500 times), until Paul McCartney wrote “Yesterday”…and this version by Nat King Cole is featured as the opening theme music for one of my favourite movies, “My Favorite Year”.
