“Subdivisions” by Rush
Dad’s Song of the Day #39, Oct. 7, 2025
Okay, guys, get ready for it. Remember a year ago when the whole city went crazy for the Taylor Swift Eras Tour?
Well, it’s all going to happen again next August…the whole city will explode for two nights, with the downtown packed with scalpers and merch dealers and the giddy electricity of the worshippers who will give up half their life savings just to be in the presence of their idols.
But this time the giggling hordes will not be 13-year-old girls; they will be 60-year-old bearded fat dudes. Because yesterday we learned…
…RUSH is touring again!!!
This will be the first time since 2015 (and since Neil Peart died in 2020), and it’ll be a big deal…only 12 shows in 7 cities.
So, what from RUSH’s deep and varied catalogue is the DSOTD? I’ve settled on “Subdivisions”, which at its heart is just a really good reel from Harlan Cohen that Mom hasn’t forwarded to you yet…it says a lot about conformity, alienation, social in-groups & out-groups…and all the other high school/teenage shit that you’ll hopefully cast away as you experience the wider world.
And while you’re doing that, wish me luck next Monday, as I brave the Ticketmaster orcs, who I’m sure will torture me once again.

What Scarborough Kid didn’t worship RUSH…even though they were from North York?
